Definition
Kurdistan Centre for Democracy in the Middle East (KCDME) is a non-for-profit community based organisation works in Kurdistan and in Diaspora, utilising local and international laws, treaties and conventions to achieve its objectives and gains the support of local and international institutions. It is an ethical and an equal-opportunity organisation, promoting the culture of democracy and tolerance in the Middle East.
The KCDME strives to provide a diverse range of community development activities such as cultural, linguistics, educational, environmental, health and recreational.
It will also attempt to promote civil society and democracy in Kurdistan and the New Middle East .
The KCDME promotes the research on Kurdish language, art, literature, history and environment, more broadly on cultural heritage. It strives to protect, revive and enhance the diverse and distinct Kurdish autonomous culture, including faiths of different ethnic and religious groups, promoting them to the inhabitants themselves and to the international communities, more particularly to the ethnic groups and nations in the Middle East.
The KCDME endeavours to enhance and develop the skills and knowledge of Kurdistanis to promote social progress and better standards of life in the society and to fully achieve their capacities. It supports and advocates on behalf of the deprived members of the community such as children, women and other disadvantaged groups to facilitate their full participation in developing Kurdish society.
Vision
In all its activities, the KCDME will endeavour to enhance and develop the skills and knowledge of the Kurds to enable them to participate equitably in the broader Kurdish society and contribute to the building of a self-reliant, self-sufficient and prosperous society in Kurdistan.
Mission
The KCDME is a non-for-profit community based organisation which strives to provide a diverse range of activities to support and enhance educational, health, recreational, self-esteem and other community interests in a manner that seeks to enhance their capacity to contribute to Kurdish society and fully achieve their aspirations.
Objectives
A- To be an appropriate community development centre and facility with a clear social justice orientation that encourages involvement and participation of people in the affairs of their community.
B- To help meet the needs, in access and program terms of the socially isolated and marginalised members of local Kurdish community.
C- To be actively involved in the decision-making process locally, that affects the allocation of resources and priorities in the community.
D- To act as a contact, support and advocacy agent for the members of Kurdish community in the area, with a particular focus on the disadvantaged.
E- To provide a welcoming environment in which people can develop friendships, extend their support networks, exchange ideas and to encourage people to involve themselves more fully in community life and decision-making.
F- To be a pro-active and creative centre in initiating and encouraging activities and opportunities best provided at a local level.
