Ismet Sherif Vanli passed away in Switzerland
Switzerland (KurdishMedia.com): Ismet Sherif Vanli, the outstanding Kurdish activist, thinker and intellect, has passed away in a Swiss hospital where he has been under medical care for weeks.
Vanli (aka: Ismet Scherif Wanly) was in his 80s of age and has an outstanding history in Kurdish political movement.
One of his close friends, Mr Ayoub Barzani, stated, “Ismet has been ill for weeks. Last week he tried to talk but he could not. This week however, his health deteriorated until sadly this morning he left us.”
"Ismet Scherif Wanly, died this morning in the Chuv Hospital, Lausanne - Switzerland, at the age of 88 years. He spent most of his life faithfully at the service of the Kurdish nation and with great determination, without distinction or discrimination on all parts of Kurdistan. His departure is a great loss for the Kurdish nation," Mr Barzani told KurdishMedia.com.
"His legacy will remain a pride of the nation. We present our heartfelt condolences to his family and to the Kurdish nation. His heritage; historical, political, philosophical, cultural and strategic vision for the liberation of Kurdish nation, will remain a rich source for the future generation, inspiring hopes and clarity of the direction," Mr Barzani explained.
Vanli was originally from Syria where he left for political reasons and has been in Switzerland for decades. He was a Swiss judge by profession.
